Preparing For Another Legislative Session

As we settle into the new year, we hope you had an opportunity during the holidays to attend at least one of the many wonderful cultural events that were held across Louisiana. Now is the time to begin planning to ensure that you, our fellow Louisianians, and our state’s many visitors continue to enjoy appealing visual, musical, dance and theatrical experiences.

The 2013 Regular Legislative Session will begin April 8th and we should get a look at the Governor’s proposed budget the week of February 18th. Louisiana Citizens for the Arts has battled budget cuts to the Decentralized Arts Funding Program (DAF) and the Statewide Arts Grants Program (SAG) for the last several years, and 2013 likely will be no different. Studies within the Division of Arts have shown that arts grants actually generate $7 new dollars for the state’s tax coffers for every $1 spent. Please contact your legislator and ask them to support restoration of arts funding and to keep cultural programs in your area viable.

We will send updates and the specific ask once the budget is introduced.

Thank you for supporting and celebrating the arts in Louisiana!
